Bonjour henri,
Merci for the post. My Français language skills are poor so I’m going to have to post in Anglais. I apologize.
It is interesting to read the different opinions from everyone and I really appreciate any feedback.
Our cost to acquire each name varies, as we buy some names through other domainers, some through eBay, some are deleting names and some are created from scratch. Generally our acquisition costs range from $10 to $175 USD per name.
We flat priced the names at $995 USD each and absorb the difference in our cost. Obviously some names are better than others. Some will sell; most will not. Part of our plan is to develop out many of the names into individual projects. Until we commit to a project, the domain name is listed for sale.
Each domain name makes a small amount of money through advertising each month which funds a portion of their annual renewal fee.
Part of the purpose of Domain Name Bakery is to offer up a creative collection of good names to startups looking to get going quickly. Most of the names are already indexed at Google, so that can certainly shave a bit of time off getting your new site and content listed quickly.
I’m going to add a blog to Domain Name Bakery soon and that should provide a good outlet to explain more of the purpose and goals of the project.
P.s. I will be in France (Languedoc region) during October this year and would love to meet-up with some locals. My background is in ASP.NET development. Let me know if you would like to get together for a drink and talk tech.
